“Reserving the Verdict of the Joker Case Next January”

Cairo Criminal Court, First Circuit of Terrorism, presided by Judge Mohamed Saeed El Sherbiny, decided today, October 5th, 2022, to reserve the verdict of case No. 1530 of 2019 Supreme State Security, known in the media as the ‘Joker Case’ in the January 15th, 2023 hearing.

It is noteworthy that in late 2019, a video was published that included four children wearing a ‘Vendetta’ mask calling for a demonstration on January 25th, 2020. Although only four children appeared in the video, the police arrested 48 children, aged between 13 and 17 years old, one woman, and a number of men against the backdrop of the aforementioned video.

On April 28th, 2021, 27 children, including a child on the run, were referred to the competent criminal court, dividing the case into three parts: the first part was referred to the criminal court, the second part is still under pretrial detention, and the third part was released.

These children were imprisoned in separate places, some of them were transferred to the juvenile detention center, and others to the holding cells, police stations, and prisons to be imprisoned with adults in violation of the law.

After more than two years since the beginning of this case, nine children were released, and one woman and 17 children are still imprisoned.
