النهارده 20 فبراير اليوم العالمي للعدالة الإجتماعية اللّي مستحيل نوصلها إلاّ باحترام حقوق جميع النّاس مهما كان صفتهم/هن الإجتماعيّة وبالمناسبة دي حابين نشارك معاكم/كن شهادات لسجينات مصريّات عن المساواة والعدالة الإجتماعيّة جوّة السّجون.
February 20 is the World Day of Social Justice, which is unattainable without respecting everyone’s human rights, regardless of their social status. On this occasion, we would like to share with you testimonies of Egyptian women prisoners on equality and social justice in prisons.

“People with powerful relations or the rich were able to bring one or more personal fans. A friend of mine has heart issues, yet the doctor refused to give her a permit to bring a fan.”

“The water was too bad and undrinkable. There were small fish in it and it had a dark color. I used to buy water from the canteen.”

“التّعیین مش 3 وجبات في اليوم ولا حاجة إلّي بیجي لحدّ العنبر هو العیش والبيض و الجبن والحلاوة والخضار المتفرّق حسب اليوم لو مقدرتش تخرج برّة العنبر مستحيل توصل لحاجه من التّعیین مثلا أنا في عنبر 1 مكناش نعرف إن فیه فول في السّجن فكان المساجین الثّانيين بتبيع لینا فول السّجن بعلبة سجایر لإنّنا مكناش بنقدر نخرج نوصلّه”

“Al Tayeen (food rations) is not three meals a day. All that comes to the ward is bread, eggs, cheese, sweets (Halawa), and vegetables distributed depending on the day. If you can’t leave the ward, it is impossible to get something from Al Tayeen. For example, in ward 1, we didn’t know that there were beans in the prison. Other prisoners were selling them to us in exchange for a pack of cigarettes because we could not go out and get it ourselves.”

“اعتمادي على التّعیین صفر أنا كنت عامله معيشة مع ستّ بتطبخ وبدفع شهریّا مبلغ مقابل وجبه تیجي لیّا كلّ یوم”

“I didn’t depend on Al Tayeen. I made a food bargain with a woman who cooks. I paid her a monthly amount in exchange for a daily meal.”

“كنت بجيب من الكانتين الماء والفاكهة لأنّها ثقيلة على ماما ولكن كانوا نصّابین ومش بتعرف أسعار الحاجة وممكن یطلّعك مدیون لیهم لمّا جه المجلس القومي لحقوق الإنسان علّقوا أسعار المنتجات في الكانتين وكانت زيّ برّه بالظّبط ولمّا مسجونة حبّت تشتري رفضوا ولمّا مشیت اللّجنة شالوا الأسعار”

“I used to buy water and fruit from the canteen, because it was heavy for my mom. But, they were scammers and they didn’t list the prices. They could also claim that you owe them. When the National Council for Human Rights came, they put the prices of the products in the canteen and it was exactly like prices outside. Yet, when a prisoner wanted to buy, they refused, and when the committee left, they removed the prices.”

“الكانتین فیه كلّ حاجة بسّ غالیة أوي یعني أنا في رمضان 2018 قرّرت أعمل معيشة وهي أن أدفع فلوس مقابل أخذ وجبات كنت بدفع 2000 جنيه في الشّهر ودا كان أرخص كتير من الزّیارات بس دلوقتي المعیشة بقيت بـ 4000 جنیة”

“Everything is available in the canteen, but at high prices. In Ramadan 2018, I decided to make a food bargain, which is to pay money for meals. I paid 2000 Egyptian pounds a month and it was much cheaper than visits. But now, food bargains are for 4000 pounds.”

“زیارتي كانت بتتكلّف من 2000 لـ 3000 جنیه ولو الأكل علیّا انا المرّة دي بتوصل لـ 4000 جنيه غیر الفلوس اللّي بتتفرّق في الزّیارة حوالي 150 جنیه أنا أهلي صرفوا علیّا حوالي نصّ ملیون جنیه فترة حبسي”

”My visitation costs from 2000 to 3000 Egyptian pounds, and if the food is on me, it reaches 4000 pounds, in addition to the money that is distributed in the visit, which is about 150 pounds. My family spent about half a million pounds during my imprisonment.”

In Banha prison, it is impossible to rely on Al Tayeen because it is horrible. If a woman doesn’t receive visits or doesn’t have enough money, she would work for another prisoner to be able to eat.”
