In the womb of darkness, Marwa tried hard to shine. She returned to her studies after a hiatus of years along with her five-year-old daughter in pursuit of a better future. She was arrested by the security forces under case No. 1357 of 2019 Supreme State Security, known in the media as the Joker Case.

First: Who Is Marwa?
Mrs. Marwa Abdel Ghani Abdel Baqi, aged twenty-five, is the mother of a seven-year-old girl who had been separated from her for two years. Marwa tried to find her way in education after a hiatus of years and after many crises encountered by her forcefully. She finally became a freshman at the Industrial School – Decoration Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second: What Happened Next?
Ms. Marwa was arrested in her house nearly two years ago, specifically at dawn on December 19th, 2019. Subsequently, she was detained at the National Security headquarters and forcibly disappeared for quite some time. On January 23rd, 2020, Marwa appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution. Several charges were brought against her, chiefly: joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purpose. This happened against the background of a video published in late 2019 in which four unidentified children appeared wearing Vendetta masks and calling for the January 25th, 2020 demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Mrs. Maryam Abdel Ghani AbdelBaqi, her twenty-year-old sister, and Mr. Marwan Abdel Ghani Abdel Baqi – their brother -, aged twenty-seven, were arrested under the same case. They were released after a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 28th, 2021, Mrs. Marwa Abdel Ghani Abdel Baqi and others were referred to the competent criminal court. She is the only named woman in the referral order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third: The Violations to Which Marwa Was Subjected
Marwa was subjected to legal violations, including enforced disappearance for more than a month, in violation of the explicit text of Article 36 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which stipulates that the defendant must be brought before the prosecution within 24 hours.
During the aforementioned duration, Marwa was also subjected to various types of beatings and electrocution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly:
Marwa now resides in her cell, far from her little daughter, waiting in line for the court to issue judicial decisions for those arrested under a political background.
