\nAlia Awad is a young 37 year-old photojournalist. Her hobby is photojournalism. Because she is a resident of Helwan, she wanted to film the demonstrations and events that are taking place in the same area, like she did in the events of June 30th, 2013. In fact, she is not affiliated in any way with any entity or group, and she is known for her rejection of injustice and violence in all their forms.<\/p>\n

In early September 2014, Alias residence, which is her aunts house, was raided by the security forces. However, Alia was visiting her other aunt in Alexandria. Since Alia wasn\u2019t in her habitual residence, the aunt and her son were arrested as a pressure tool on Alia to turn herself in.<\/p>\n

Alia appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on the grounds of joining a terrorist group and promoting its purposes. Although she actually admitted filming the video, she clearly denied her connection with the videos release on social media and asserted that she completely deleted it. Nevertheless, her name was included in the defendants list to be the only accused woman in the Helwan Brigades case.<\/p>\n

Since then, Alia have been suffering from very difficult health conditions. According to the medical examination in the prison hospital, she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She was transferred to the hospital more than once. In the end, Alia underwent an operation to remove the tumors.Subsequently, another health problem appeared, which is fistula on her back although she underwent a surgery to treat it. However, the latter still needs a reoperation with better techniques. That\u2019s because it caused her continuous bleeding. To date, Alia suffers because of it and she needs another operation as soon as possible, which is not possible due to the poor capacities of the prison hospital.<\/p>\n
