– Persecution and Infringement of Rights for Exercising the Freedom of Expression
Journalist Safaa Al-Korbiji:
It is worth noting that the journalist Safaa Al-Korbiji was subjected to severe pressure at her workplace. She was repeatedly investigated for publishing dissenting opinions on her personal Facebook page. Large sums were deducted from her salary more than once. She was also deprived of her right to work from home and was forced to come daily to her workplace despite having a foot disability preventing her from moving completely. After three years of violating her rights, she was forcibly dismissed, which placed her in a very difficult psychological and financial condition, as reported by her family member. This crisis made her look for an outlet to express what she was going through by writing on her personal page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Personality Hala Fahmy:
Hala Fahmy is a senior Tv presenter in the rank of director-general. Last March, she was banned from entering her workplace in Maspero without legal justification, notice or even an official decision. Furthermore, the National Media Authority referred her to the investigation. She was suspended from work for three months with half pay as a precaution, until her investigation is completed in the filed complaint against her by the head of the television industry.
According to her interview with the Egyptian Observatory for Journalism and Media, Hala stated that all of this happened because she stood by her colleagues in Maspero to demand their disregarded rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the past week, Hala Fahmy published a video on her personal page taken in front of Al Nozha Police Station, explaining that she is being stalked by unknown individuals and calling for the help of police forces. Later, she disappeared and then appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on April 26th. That was the moment when Belady\u2019s lawyers learned that she had been presented before the prosecution since last Sunday, April 24th, in the absence of a lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the social media publications of lawyer Ali Ayoub and journalist Mahmoud Kamel, a member of the Journalists Syndicate, Safa Al-Korbiji was arrested in her house in Mokattam at dawn last Thursday, April 21st. She was taken to an unknown place, which made her whereabouts unknown to her family, lawyer, and the Journalists Syndicate for more than three days. Belady\u2019s lawyers inquired the prosecution about her on Sunday morning, April 24th.
