A Plea
On June 28, 2022, the Cairo Criminal Court, First Circuit Terrorism, headed by Judge Mohamed Sherine Fahmy, sentenced the photojournalist Alia Nasr El Din Hassan Nasr Awad, known in the media as \u201cAlia Awad\u201d to fifteen years in prison. The court convicted her of joining a terrorist group and promoting its purposes. The same verdict was issued on eleven children for unlawful assembly, in the case known in the media as the \u201cHelwan Brigades\u201d case.
It is worth noting that the court did not take into account the medical negligence that Alia suffered in her imprisonment. She suffered tough health conditions that required urgent surgical intervention and regular medical follow-up. However, this is not possible for a prisoner due to the weak capacity of the prison hospital.
The court did not take any considerations for the children even for being minors. After many years of pretrial detention, the verdict came out harsh.
Belady also recorded the acquittal of 43 defendants after being held in pretrial detention since the beginning of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
