The Child Mahmoud Atta: Four Years Lost in Prison, and Counting \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The child Mahmoud Atta El Metwally, born in Dakahlia Governorate, was arrested at the age of 15, in the middle of his academic year as a freshman in El Azhari high school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His journey in prison began on January 24th, 2018 when his house was raided and he was arrested. Later, the fifteen-year-old child was transferred to the National Security Headquarters where he was subjected to various forms of torture, including continuous electrocution for ten days, and severe beatings that broke his teeth, in addition to being blindfolded throughout his detention, even during torture. Eventually, he was brought before Public Prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The child was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on February 4th. He was surprised that the date on the arrest warrant was false. It was mentioned in the report that he was arrested on February 3rd, which contradicts the actual date (January 24th).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The child recounted to the prosecution the incident of his arrest and the torture to which he was subjected at the National Security Headquarters. Furthermore, he recounted the words he had memorized at the National Security Headquarters, with which he was threatened to be tortured again if he did not confess to them. Accordingly, the prosecution confronted him with the charges brought against him, chiefly:
– Joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes.
– Participating in the murder of officers and policemen.
– Possessing a firearm and ammunition.
The Public Prosecution charged the child in case No. 420 of 2017 the Supreme State Security, known in the media as the \u201cHasm Movement\u201d case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The child was brought before the Public Prosecution more than once. He confessed under duress to a crime he did not commit. He said at the time that his fear of being threatened to return to the National Security Headquarters and being tortured again was enough to make him confess the statements that the National Security obliged him to make. However, the prosecution kept renewing his detention until he was referred to the Military Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 17th, 2021, the court declared its lack of jurisdiction due to his young age. His papers were returned to the Supreme State Security Prosecution to be referred to the competent court. However, the prosecution rotated him in a new case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The child was detained in several places, including the National Security Headquarters and El Marg Juvenile Detention Facility. When he turned eighteen years old, he was transferred to Tora Prison, and eventually to the newly built Badr Prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahmoud is still in the vortex of prison. He lost four years of his life, childhood, and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
